General Membership
and
B ard Meetings |
Who are the people involved in PTA?
How does PTA work? |
The Executive Board
is the elected officers. |
The Board of Directors
is comprised of the standing
committee chairmen, special
committee chairmen, |
and the elected officers.
General membership includes all PTA
members.
|
Board Members meet on the first Tuesday of each
month. Chairpersons bring their ideas and budget needs from their committee
to the board for approval. Committees report on what their committee is doing, ask
for input from the members and get approval on how they want to spend their committee's
money. Anyone may attend a board meeting, but only members may vote.
|
General Membership Meetings are held four
times during the school year with childcare provided. A variety of things can
take place during General Membership meetings. Sometimes there are special speakers, or
our principal may present some important information. Chairpersons update the general
membership on upcoming events, teachers or other members may request money be used for
reasons not previously approved in the budget and a vote will need to take place. The
purpose of a general membership meeting is really to give parents, staff, community
members, anyone who is concerned about students at Cedar Valley, a chance to have
some input on how the PTA spends its money. Issues are discussed
and it is put to a vote on where and how we allocate money. Only PTA members
may vote, which is why it is so important for everyone to become a member. To see how PTA
has chosen to spend its money this year, click here.
|
We need 10% of PTA members present at meetings to be
able to conduct PTA business. This means that we can't proceed with an activity or
program if there are not enough members present to vote on the proposal. Without
general membership approval, we cannot spend any money for that activity or program
and therefore cannot proceed in our planning.
Below are
the scheduled General Membership Meetings for the 2003-2004 school year.
